No Motorcycle Tire Repair Kit?
The benefits of motorcycle riding are obvious to even those that do not ride: A sense of unrestricted freedom.
The disadvantages of riding are just as obvious to those that do not ride: A lack of protection from the elements and particularly a lack of protection in the event of a crash.
I love riding and motorcycles. And having traversed many hundreds of thousands of miles up and down, coast-to-coast, and all over North America, I still would much prefer to go anywhere on a bike than in a car.
However, the one thing that I, personally, consider a bit of a nuisance is getting a flat tire on a motorcycle. There’s no spare tire to swap out. The darn thing needs to be repaired on the spot, And on top of that, AIR needs to be re-added to the tire. Although these may be merely mundane chores when you’re at home with a flat tire, when you are out on the road on a motorcycle, particularly in some remotely traveled area, well, that mundane chore can become instantly VERY interesting!
Particularly if you are in an area with no cell phone service and you have no way of repairing and filling the tire.
Choice of Motorcycle Tire Repair Kits
The good news is that over the years there have been more and more commercially available motorcycle tire repair kits developed to address the unique needs of bikers: Compactness and ease of use.
The repair kit needs to be small enough to be readily and continuously stored on your bike, so that you don’t have to decide “will I carry this today?” For as you know, even if you do own one, if it’s not on your bike, you won’t be any more pleased the day you are stranded without it.
Anyway, you can get them for tubed and tubeless tires. They may use compressed air cartridges or portable air pumps. Sport riders will need a more compact kit, than, say a Gold Wing rider, but regardless, if you own one, and you carry it, who knows, you may never need it. But at least you’ll have more peace of mind while riding…
