FOUR FUNCTIONS OF MOTORCYCLE TIRES
Motorcycle tires need to perform four functions:
1) Support the motorcycle
2) Transmit traction and braking forces to the surface
3) Absorb surface shocks
4) Maintain and change travel direction
Over the years, tire manufacturers have continued to improve the performance of those characteristics, all in pursuit of a better - and safer - rider experience for you and I.
BRIDGESTONE MOTORCYCLE TIRES
Bridgestone Corporation is a Japanese rubber conglomerate with facilities in 24 nations. They market their tires in 150 countries. Shojiro Ishibashi founded the company in 1931, so Bridgestone is a little younger than a number of the other world leaders of tire manufacturing, which have roots going back to the 19th century.
However, Bridgestone is ranked as one of the very top global tire makers, which includes Michelin, Goodyear and Continental.
Although we motorbike riders tend to think of Bridgestone solely in terms of their motorcycle tires, the company provides tires to most major car manufacturers, as well as for the construction industry, highway maintenance, mining, and aviation industries. (In other words, they make a lot of tires).
The name “Bridgestone” means “stone bridge” in Japanese.
BRIDGESTONE BATTLAX PERFORMANCE TIRES
One notable series of Bridgestone motorcycle tires is their Battlax line of racing, sport and sport-touring tires. Bridgestone claims that “Its Ultimate Grip Performance derived from MotoGP technology provides riders sporty riding enjoyment with confident grip on streets and dry-condition circuits.”
