Why So Many Motorcycle Windshields?

As any specific motorcycle is manufactured from a variety of parts that reflect an engineering compromise between the purpose of the bike and the specific cost of the parts, one can understand why there can be so many different motorcycles. (A Harley Road King and Kawasaki XZ14 represent very different motorbike purposes, even though they both use windshields).

Hence, one can also understand why there is such a big variety in after-market parts that represent the seemingly infinite ways that bikes can be customized for performance or personal preferences.

That said, you might STILL wonder how there can be soooo many different after-market MOTORCYCLE WINDSHIELDS.

The Math of Motorcycle Windshields

Well, when you consider the various types of bikes that use windshields, for example racing machines, sport bikes, sport-touring bikes, touring motorcycles and cruisers, and then consider the various manufacturers with their own specifications, such as Aprilia, Bimota, BMW, Buell, Ducati, Harley Davidson, Honda, Kawasaki, MV Agusta, Moto Guzzi, Suzuki, Triumph and Yamaha, the math starts to scale out.

And that’s even before you get to different colors, quality of materials, and more importantly, the actual design characteristics of any individual model.

Zero Gravity makes world-class motorcycle windshields that can be used to upgrade and/or replace an existing stock shield. Their high-performance windshields are used by some of the biggest names in the motorcycle racing world and one of their most renown windshield designs is their “Double Bubble” that is widely used on sport bike and racing machines for its improved airflow and comfort.
