I NEED BRAKE AND CLUTCH LEVERS FOR MY MOTORCYCLE AGAIN!
The good news is that most replacement brake levers and clutch levers for motorcycles are not too expensive.
These levers are among the most used items by any biker. (And if you are a rider who is NOT using your front brake lever regularly, you are significantly reducing your braking effectiveness).
And of course, on many bikes they are among the first things that need replacement when your machine goes down.
MOTOCROSS BRAKE AND CLUTCH LEVERS
Busting a brake or clutch lever may be an inconvenience for an off-road motorcyclist who is pushing his/her skill set and wiping out in the process while improving.
I’ve done this more than once.
In many (but not all) cases, wiping out in the dirt results in getting up, brushing yourself off, checking the bike for damage, and getting going again. Certainly, the prospect of getting killed is a lower probability on the dirt than on the street.
STREETBIKE BRAKE AND CLUTCH LEVERS
On the other hand, if you are a street rider, well, you don’t need anyone to tell you that it’s best to avoid any kind of crash in general! (Unless you are a stunt rider).
But crashes happen.
Brake and clutch levers need to be replaced (usually along with other parts, too).
If you are replacing your brake and clutch levers on a street bike with any regularity (and you’re not a stunt rider), you are like an adventurous cat going through your nine lives. Stated differently, you may be pushing the envelope of your skill set too aggressively on public asphalt.
Although you may very well have been in a crash that was a result of a driver violating your right of way, it’s still very useful to consider what you may have been able to do to avoid the crash in the first place. Stated differently, anytime you are replacing a brake or clutch lever, you really should be looking at this as an opportunity to evaluate your rider skills in general, and your defensive riding skills in particular.
