Do You REALLY Need Motorcycle Glove Liners?

Motorcycle Glove LinersWho Are Motorcycle Glove Liners Really For?

If you are already wearing liners for your motorcycle gloves, then you are in the minority. At least according to my informal, and grossly non-scientific research (observing other riders and their gloves here and there when the notion occurs to me).

It seems many motorcycle stores don’t even carry them, so they are certainly not a “hot” item. (However, you can review and compare MOTORCYCLE GLOVE LINERS on the link below).

On the other hand, although they may not be hot in terms of popularity, they do increase warmth to your hands - and add some comfort as well. And just to twist things a little more, some biker glove liners will actually help keep your hands cooler, when the weather really is HOT (see below for more info).

So, who are glove liners for? Well, they’re for riders who want more warmth, more comfort, or even a little less warmth…

(And who knows, some day they might even enjoy a little more popularity, too).

Motorcycle Glove Liners for Warmth

Adding an extra layer of warmth to your hands when the mercury goes down, would be the main reason bikers get glove liners. The majority of liners are pretty thin so they fit under most gloves.

Fleece liners, or other insulating fibers, would be among the most notable liners to add warmth, although even the thinnest will help contain your existing body warmth within your hands to some extent.

However, the “warmest” liners can also be among the thickest, so if you are already wearing very tightly fitting outer gloves, and you still want liners for them, you’ll obviously need to get the thinnest liners. (Dude, you may need to get another pair of gloves, in addition to liners).

Some glove liners have fine, metallic filaments woven through them that are supposed to be even better at containing the natural warmth of your hands. I’ve used these, too, and I can’t really say one way or the other how effective they are compared to biker glove liners that don’t have metallic filaments, since, although I wore them many times, I didn’t do direct comparisons between other kinds of liners in similar riding conditions. (They did leave me wondering if metallic filaments were just a gimmick. If you have any experience with these filaments, please write a comment below).

Motorcycle Glove Liners for Comfort and Coolness

The reason motorcycle glove liners can help keep your hands warmer may seem obvious, since you are adding an extra layer of insulation of your hands.

However, how can they keep your hands cooler and more comfortable?

Silk liners in particular, as well as some of the high-tech, man made fibers, are designed to manage the moisture in your hands by wicking it away from your skin, which results in a cooler and more comfortable experience.

And silk, in particular, does render a VERY comfortable and somewhat luxurious feel: But that’s not something ALL riders are after….

The bottom line here is that comfortable hands result in better motorbike control and increased safety.

Glove Liner Caution

A caution about glove liners is that some can potentially get caught in certain velcro wrist fasteners that are part of your outer gloves. Particularly if you have shorter gloves. This can wear the liners out faster, and give them a ragged look, and generally be a minor nuisance when you are putting them on or taking them off.

Other Biker Glove Liner Benefits

Many of the glove liners are washable, so you can toss ‘em in with your laundry for easy maintenance.

Another benefit to glove liners is that they’ll help prevent the leather dye from your regular gloves from getting absorbed into your hands, especially when your hands are sweating under your gloves.

Finally, motorcycle glove liners are so darn compact, that they can be easily stowed on your bike or even in your pockets, when not in use.
