Honda Goldwing: A Little History

The Honda Goldwing first appeared to the world in 1975 and has since become one of the most popular models in motorcycle history.

I recall when it first came out: it was a large (for the time), 1000cc street bike and it did not have all the touring accessories that it has since become famous for. (Honda added their own full touring accouterments, straight from the factory, during the 1980’s).

In the 1970’s, a large after-market developed for touring riders, offering fairings to luggage and much more. The Windjammer series of fairings and luggage, by Vetter, was the most popular. (I bought a Windjammer fairing for the bike I had at the time, although it was not a Goldwing).

Even though Honda dealt a blow to the aftermarket makers of fairings and saddlebags for the Goldwing, a HUGE market has grown since then on everything else of interest to a passionate crowd of wingers.

Motorcycle gloves with the famed Goldwing moniker are a small part of the entire industry of parts, apparel and accessories that have grown to support the touring heritage of the Honda Goldwing.
