Moto Guzzi: Unique Italian Motorcycle
Those Italians do a lot of things right! Whether it’s food, wine, fashion, women or motorcycles, and even motorcycle roads, Italy turns out some wonderful joys for the rest of the world.
MOTO GUZZI is not only one of Italy’s fine motorcycle manufacturers, but they have been doing it for a very long time (Moto Guzzi has been creating motorbikes since 1921).
If any motorcycle manufacturer could win a prize for a wholly unique look for their bikes, Moto Guzzi would take home the trophy.
No other motorcycle manufacturer can claim that their bikes behold such a distinguishing and noteworthy feature, that readily identifies their bikes around the globe. Moto Guzzi motorcycles are uniquely distinguished from any other motorcycle maker by their prominent V-twin engines that have “transverse” cylinder heads sticking out each side of the bike.
Although BMW has a line of very famous horizontally-opposed motorbike engines, with their cylinder heads projecting straight out from each side of the bike, BMW also makes many other bikes with other engine configurations. So, although it is just as easy to identify quite a number of BMW motorcycles with their “boxer” engines, you would not be able to distinguish ALL BMW bikes that way.
Moto Guzzi V-Twin Engines
On the other hand, all of Moto Guzzi bikes engines are V-twins and all of them feature one cylinder projecting out to the left and another projecting to the right, and of course the most salient point is that both cylinders are angled upwards.
It’s hard to imagine that at one time Moto Guzzi was the largest motorbike maker in Italy (1930s until the 1960s), because they are not as prominent as some other Italian bikes (Ducati being the most famous).
Guzzi does not boast an extensive dealer network in North America, so Moto Guzzi owners also enjoy the distinction of being a bit more exotic.
Moto Guzzi bikes are more prominent in Europe, but worldwide, the Guzzi culture includes riders who are noteworthy for their passion about their choice of motorcycle. Strike up a conversation with any Moto Guzzi owner you meet, and judge for yourself.
