BELL HELMETS: NOSTALGIA AND THE MODERN WORLD
For old-timers in the motorcycle world, the name and logo of “Bell Helmets” may conjure up some related nostalgia of long-ago, when Bell was the big name in motorbike and racing helmets. I’ve owned a few Bell helmets going back to the 1970’s including their Bell Star, which I recall was their flagship product.
Back then, BELL HELMETS was a premier name for on- or off-road motorcycle riding, as well as in auto racing.
And then … I don’t know … they seemed to have gone away.
Over the decades I continued to see their name as makers of bicycle helmets, but they didn’t come on my radar screen as a motorcycle helmet maker.
Some research for this little article showed the company has been bought and sold and split and chopped and diced so many times that it seems the only thing that has remained constant is the “Bell Helmet” logo.
Anyway, the good news is that in the last few years, they’ve come back to motorbike life and their website says “Today Bell is fully rededicated to the world of motorcycle helmets.”
Nowadays they’ve got a full line of motosport helmets for street and off-road riders, including their Bell Star series from way back when, as well as a variety of designs and colors of full face and open face helmets, in addition to half helmets and motocross helmets. Regardless of which Bell helmet is the best one for you, be sure to select one that fits correctly. Here is an article on How To Fit A Motorcycle Helmet.
